We lost a Phoenix Favorite Richardsons Restaurant to fire

Friday a fire broke out and destroyed a longtime favorite Southwestern  Cuisine of New Mexico, Richardson’s  Restaurant.

This is the link when you click on their web site:  http://www.burningembersphoenix.com/

It is a total loss.  This has been a favorite for longtime locals and anyone visiting the valley as a must visit.  I have lunched there often and at times would crave the steak quesadilla and their spicy salsa.  Everyday the specials written out on chalk boards to be seen from all tables (mostly deep private booths).  You had to get there early, just as before they opened the doors, to get a seat for lunch as they were always packed.

I receive most of my news from the internet, email updates from several local and national sources and from the radio.  This came in the afternoon around 4:00 to my blackberry from the Business Journal Phoenix Edition:

“Fire gutted Richardson’s, an iconic restaurant in north Phoenix, on Friday.

Media reports said the fire broke out early and destroyed the restaurant at 1582 E. Bethany Home Road, which served traditional Mexican fare, wood-oven pizza and a famed daily brunch. Former U.S. President George W. Bush reportedly ate there during his multiple visits to the Valley.”

I had passed several trucks heading east as I was heading west on camelback just a few hours earlier.  The owners say they will rebuild and I hope they do.

Here is a Blog post from “Feasting in Phoenix” with  pictures of the wonderful food!  I can’t wait for them to come back!
